MIME type <---> DOS extension

Is there a way to get a DOS extension from a MIME type or vice versa? I am writing a program to add a document into Livelink server 9.1. Before doing that, I will need to check if the current configuration supports certain MIME types in order for the server not to assign some odd MIME type. Either an LAPI function or SQL statement for LL_ListObjects will be fine enough. Please don't say that I should look up server registry or mime.types file in a Livelink server. Thank you.
