Export of WebReport to MS Excel

I have a couple of cool webreports, that I want to export to excel. They work fine for the browser view, but when I use functions to export it as a csv to the desktop, i do not get the data.Do I have to create a special format if reportview to do this? Message from Olson, Leonard via eLinkExporting to a csv may not be the best way to get your report into Excel. For simple LiveReports, I have found that simply cutting & pasting works very well. If you have Excel 2003, you can log in directly to Livelink - Data menu, Import External Data, New Web Query - enter your Livelink URL. (You can run web queries with older versions of Excel, but first you need to run one for the LL Login page, and then a second one using the report URL. Generally you will create a differentview that formats your results as a CSV, and then set the mime typeappropriately on the WebReport settings (assuming you are using WebReports2.0). There should be a sample that came with the install.

We have found MS-Excel has a limitation on the length of the URL being passed thru web query. The length of a LiveReport output URL with 3 or 4 input parameters is really loooong. Hence we had to write our own Excel macro to accomplish this.only limitation I presume in this case is the transmission of clear test passwords between Excel & Livelink.

As Eric (Saavedra) mentioned, the best way to utilize the WebReports export feature is to create a CSV reportview (using the default example) and run that. You could even setup a button on your existing, interactive version which invokes the CSV version of the data from a URL. (If you do this it is good practice to use the WebReport's constants' feature to set the object ID of the second report). There are a few ways you could setup the CSV WebReport. Firstly if you select Export WebReport manually, and then select Desktop as the output location, and text/csv as the mime type, then you will have excel open up directly with the report data. If you go to the specific tab, you can set this up as the default behaviour so that simply selecting the webreport link (or using the normal URL) will cause the excel application to launch with the report data. You could also set this up to store the output file back into Livelink, or to email it as required. Finally, you could also setup a schedule so that the export to Livelink or email occurred automatically at regular intervals. Hope this gives you some ideas. CheersGreg Petti
