LiveReport for attributes in LL 9.2

Why is it so difficult to write a LiveReport for categories & attributes applied to documents in Livelink 9.2? When you create a Category it is represented by a table in the Livelink DB and each attribute in the category is represented by a row in the table created for the category. Hence, it becomes very complex to create a report showing the data in a tabular format. I have only 1 category but 7 attributes in there. This category is applied to several similar documents. How do I get the attribute values in a report in a tabular format? How many JOINs of my category tables do I have to make? I have read suggestion given in this Discussion by others but none has been useful. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

We have lost a great deal of funcionality with 9.2 because of the changes in attributes. We used live reports for reporting Legislative session data ( attributes) as in: when a hearing is scheduled, company's position on the pending law, bill sponsor, Hearing room, date, time etc.... One report was run weekly to schedule people to go to legislative hearings. With the new session starting in Jan our goose is cooked. We need to find another product to store attributes with reporting features. We may have to go back to using MS Access.

Reporting on a significant number of attributes, especially multi-values and sets, is difficult with LiveReports/SQL. I've attached part of the help file for a new feature in WebReports that addresses this issue. All you need is the DATAID of the object you want to look at, from there you can access/evaluate pretty much any piece of data in Livelink Categories and Attributes.

Let me know if you have any questions about how this might solve your specific problem.

WebReports 3.0.0 (9.1 & 9.2 support) & 3.50 (9.5 support) will be available in January with the category feature. You might be interested to know some of the other new <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />features include:

In-line sub-WebReports - this powerful feature allows a sub-WebReport to populate additional report information inside another report. It gives report designers a simple and intuitive way to have multiple WebReports (and therefore multiple LiveReports) to be run with all results available in a single report. Sub-WebReports could be created, for example, to deliver the HTML for dropdown menus whose values are based on database data.
Export to PDF - This feature will allow PDF format reports to be exported to new Livelink nodes, Livelink node versions, email & the Livelink server.
Export to Livelink server (Admin user only)- Will allow all supported formats to be exported to the Livelink server at the specified drive and directory location.
Export data to an existing Livelink node appending the results at the start or end of the file as well as inserting the report between predefined tags within the existing document.
Audit events for every RUN/EXPORT event.
Parameter defaults for both LiveReports and WebReports. MATH tags to allow column totals, averages, min, max etc.
VARIABLES to allow more advanced data manipulation - e.g.. Run a report on a workflow and have an automatic email sent only to the people assigned overdue tasks.
Support for tags/variables in export file names, email subject, email to list, livelink node name - e.g.: 'export_file-[LL_REPTAG_DATE /].html' could produce a new livelink node called 'export_file-071204.html'
Ability to decide if an export should proceed if there is no data. This is useful if you have a report running on a schedule and, for example, it exports to email once per month. If a month has no report data you can decide whether to send an empty email or no email.
INSERTJSARRAY a great feature which allows JavaScript arrays to be easily built/populated in the WebReport.
