Email Function in Oscript Livelink 9.2 SP1

Hi Benjamin,Thanks a lot for your suggestion.It was a typo. I m using text/plain as the mime type. Actually this was a hardcoded example, what I am trying to do is dynamically send a file.Is this a bug in the livelink function itself?

Hi Mahmoud,I have written several email scripts and I have never passed in the "cc" argument to the SendMail() routine (that i see you have). Maybe we are on different versions of Livelink and this routine has changed. Maybe this is something custom that you are doing; if so, you might try backing that out and sending the message without the cc param.I am attaching a couple of examples that i hope you will find useful for comparison. One of them is used for sending multiple attachments on the email (i had to write a custom smtpclient object because the standard LL only allows one attachment) - the other just uses a formatted html string as the message. We are using similar code to sendmultiple emails. Someone asked the question as to whether it’s possibleto specify the priority when sending an email(i.e…the red flag that showsup in your inbox on every email your manager sends out…). I believe thisisn’t a property of smtp emails, but I wondered if you’ve found away to do it?

Hi Layne,I have not had to do this, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be included in the smtp header data - if you are using a custom smtpclient object, you might play around with the SendMessageHeader() routine to see if you can include the priority data.I've googled a bit to see if i could find some definitive source for smtp properties, but am only finding vague references to priority.....Good Luck and let me know if you get it wor!!Regards,Donna

Hi Gayathri,In your SendMessage() method, you are making a call to SendAttachmentFile() -- which seems to replace the call to the original SendAttachment() -- with less args in.Also, I sent you an email (gi@ecc.ae) with an attachment - did you receive the attachment correctly on that message??? If so, then I am going to make the assumption that the problem is somewhere in the changes that you have made in your SendAttachmentFile()..... I would be happy to take a look and test that code if you would be kind enough to share it here.Regards,Donna

Hi Gayathri --I am not able to compile your SentAttachmentFile() method:1) what is InetMsgEncoding??? it is not defined.2) what is the purpose of this script - did you want to write your own encoding routine?I sent you an email message with attachment using the original SendMessage() and SendAttachment. Did you receive that email message and attachment?At this point, let me suggest, removing this custom script and making a call to the SMTPClient.SendAttachment() - see if you receive your attachments properly then. If so, then you know the problem is somewhere within your encoding routine.Is there a reason that you wrote a custom encoding routine? I'm pretty sure that's where the problem is.Regards,Donna

I am currently looking for a solution to send email attachments which are 8bit encoded. The standard kernel smtp object only supports text attachments.I hoped to find the result in the docMail Module, which has an additional script "sendattachmentfile" in its SMTPClient Object. But unfortunately this script is not working because of the InetMsgEncoding function which is undefined. Do you have any idea how I can send documents like pdf? (The attachment is a local file.)Thank you for any help.Veronika

Hi Gayathri,I was looking at the thread and your code. I don't have any attachment. We are sending the email which just contains a URL in the body. This URL contains the hyperlink when we send the email to outlook but when we send the email to other email exchange(Firpond), the URL does not contain the hyperlink. We see just a plain text URL. I am using SendMessage method. This method gives the option of defining the mime type for body file/attachment. But since we are not sending body file/attachment, I cannot set the mime type to text/html for my body.Do you have any idea on this?Regards,Vijay

If you use 'text/html' as the bodyFileMime arg into SendMessage(), that should also allow you to use html formatting in your body message string.i am pretty sure that i have done this successfully in the past.

Hi,It has been awhile since i did this, but i think the trick is that the SendAttachment() method defaults to 8bit encoding and you need the Base64 for anything other than plain text....I can't lay my hands on the code right now, but I think what i did was orphan $KERNEL.SMTPClient into my custom ospace and rename it -- then, put some logic in SendAttachment() to manipulate the encoding to Base64....then, instead of calling $KERNEL.SMTPClient, i called my custom SMTPClient object.SendMessage().There is likely a better way, but off the top of my head, i think this is what i did to get my doc attachments to work.Good luck,Donna
