Find the VolumeID

I have the NodeID from getObjectIDbyNickname, but to use it I need the volumeID also. How do I get that?Jason Engel

Yes but if I just have the nickname of the object and the nodeid how do i know what volume it is part of?

I believe you are using this functionJava/.NET Method Declarationpublic int GetObjectIDByNickname( String nickname, LLValue objectID )the return value is an LLValue consisting of objectID's having the same nickname which is coming from somewhat this sql"SELECT ID FROM Nickname WHERE LOWER(Nickname) = LOWER(:A1) AND Domain IS NULL" .Try the sql for your nickname replace the :A1 bind with what your nickname is and see the result set and see if the volid is in that.Unfortunately I don't yet have a working 9.5 with me to test what I am saying.The code is in this ospace called Nickname and the lapi call translates to FindNode in the utils of that.

The volumeID can be zero for most LAPI calls. I think it is a holdover from long, long ago when dataID was not always unique. One exception is ListObjects - you must specify volumne ID.

Yep! you can specify the volume ID as 0.If you open LL Builder and examine the API Ospaces, you'll find that OT programmers have taken care of this problem.Basically when Lapi fires a GetObjectInfo call, livelink internally fires a DAPI.getNodeByID command to retrieve the node information. If volume ID is not specified (0) then it uses DAPI.BY_DATAID constant to fetch the node on node id information.
