Changing eLink Interests through a custom module

Our customer has requested that all users have certain eLink proferences set. Using a custom module with requesthandlers is it possible to manually modify a user's preferences? I have used UAPI calls to create/modify/delete users and groups and add/remove users from groups. Builder shows UAPI calls named PrefsPut(), PrefsList(), PrefGet() and PrefsDelete() and they take a parameter called 'keyword'. What are the possible values for this keyword? Are we looking in the right direction?
