Number of docs in subfolders

Hi try to create a report/ratio giving me the name of the subfolders containing at least 1 document. We have a topfolder containing a great number of subfolders with 1 or several document my report/ratio gives me the name of the document, but I want that it counts the number of document in each subfolder. Be aware that this report can take for ever. There is no need to apply the Abs() function on dataid and you might consider creating an index on DTree on abs(parentid). The reason behind this is that Oracle doesn't use the index on dataid when a function is applied so you'll end up with full table scans. I created such an index in our development instance and noticed dramatic improvements.

Hi Idriss,If in the folder hierarchy, you don't have any projects (i.e just folders and subfolders with documents etc...) then you don't need to use the abs(parentid) clause.However if you have projects inside the folder hierarchy and you also want to find documents in the entire hierarchy then you will need to use the abs(parentid) function. You don't need the abs(dataid) as dataid is I think never stored in negative format.The problem is that you just can't create a FBI (function based index) and hope the problem is resolved.There are parameters and privileges that need to be defined and set for the LiveLink d/b user and the optimizer must be set for Cost Based Optimization, before Oracle can exploit the presence of FBI in its execution plan.This of course opens a whole can of worms with other parameter settings and statistics on schema objects. One thing for sure, it will be all worth it and I too have seen dramatic performance improvement when all said is done and implemented correctly.You'll need to get your dba involved at this point. I did several presentations at LiveLinkUPs (Chicago, Paris and Orlando) on these types of issues. You may want to get copies of these from OT.Hope this helps.Mohsin
