CSIDE and OScript
a Livelink novice questions
Jaroslav_Bambous_(deactivated-jbambous_-_(deleted)
Hello,I'm a Livelink novice and now I'm learning LLBuilder and OScript. I'm fairly confused , I need some answers:1) I started with Livelink Module Development Tutorial, trying to repeate step-by-step what?s written in the text ? development of an Addressbook. I created Addressbook and Address nodes, I?m able to create new address, but I can?t view it ? when I push ?Specific?, I see only empty page. I tryied to repeat the instructions several times, but there?s no effect. Is there any better way to trace such problem? Is there any documentation how to debug Livelink?2) I know that the Livelink module development might be done in Java. I know Java and J2EE basics, I had just a look-see at documentation and understood that Java development differs very much from Oscript development. Since I don?t feel very well with Livelink builder, I would like to hear an oppinion what?s better ? Oscript or Java development.

Message from Smith, Trevor via eLinkAs I recall, there is some error in the instructions found in the tutorial, but I don't remember what it is - you probably did everything "right". If you are getting a blank page, you probably are not mapped to the correct .html file - what do you see in the debug window when you try to view "Specific" window? As far as java vs. OScript goes, there are obvious similarities in some of the concepts and syntax, but Java is a much more powerful and more widely used platform. In addition, there are many good IDEs for Java and only one really primitive IDE for OScript (to be fair, the Livelink Builder was never intended to be an IDE - only a way to customize the Livelink application).Trevor SmithIT - Livelink SpecialistAEGON Direct Marketing Services, Inc.520 Park AvenueBaltimore, MD 21201410.209.5461443.465.0418 cell -----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: Livelink Builder Discussion [mailto:componentbuilder@elinkkc.opentext.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2005 10:35 AMTo: eLink RecipientSubject: a Livelink novice questionsa Livelink novice questionsPosted by Bambous, Jaroslav on 10/18/2005 10:33 AMHello,I'm a Livelink novice and now I'm learning LLBuilder and OScript. Message from Nair, Krishnankutty N. via eLinkI believe the error which got me by doing everything "right" was where you put the weblingo file you are supposed to type in with the quotes. That would make it a stringvs a dynamic .Please check all your features and see if they still retainthe values albeit OpenText says you are putting in.Another way you can approach it would be to unload the sample addressbook application and compare the features with your module. It will take time but you can get there much more easily.Otherwise I have found that Oscript is much easier to work with .I haven't startedusing the java mods because it does require a whole more setup of an appserver etc etc.I did get the Tomcat environment configured and if my work demands that will do it.Otherwise ours are more an oscript shop so no qualms there.I really did struggle figuring out my errors and most were either typos, casesensitiveness or datatypes.Hope this helps any and good luck.
