UserPwd field in DB when using DS

We are thinking of replacing our currently configured LDAP Read-Only Synchronization with our own procedures. We already import LDAP for other purposes, expanding it to LL shouldn't be such a problem.The data seems pretty undestandable, except for the UserPwd field. Does it have to be a particular format? A quick test with a value of "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" seems to work, but would this break anything else? Does anyone know if there are any requirements for this field?
