FetchVersion not working with Word or Excel docs

I am using FetchVersion within a VBA environment (not ideal I know) to download documents to a local drive. The function works fine for pdf docs, but for Excel or Word docs the function call hangs and I cannot regain control.The document actually does fully copy across to the requested folder - i just doesnt want to go any further.For docs with a rendition I can use FetchRendition fine.Any ideas?
