How do you modify role assignments in a Livelink Workflow through LAPI?

Please give details about are you talking about role based workflows.I see afunction called reassigntask .If this is called correctly it should set the perfomer to a valid user in the system.I guess "Roles" are also valid users in the sytem so that may work.
