fetchVersionSegmented

Hi, I am trying to fetch fairly large doc, 3mb. fetchVersionSegmented doesn't bring anything, however, fetchVersion brings the document successfully. I have other much larger docs on which fetchVersion times out. Has anyone out there used fetchVersionSegmented successfully? I am using java via Axis. code snippet attached...the line -> nextBytes = fileInfo.getContent(); return null
