Retrieve WF step data

I want to retrieve not only all the status of my WFs kicked off from my Java UI, but also at what step the WFs are currently at. I am not talking about just WF status as completed, suspended etc but also the exact step it is currently at, at each step of WF execution. I dont know what tables to look at and the SQL query that is needed. I need to run this query, pull the data and display in my UI, so looking within LL itself is not an option. Can anyone help me with this please?Thanks much in advance
