SDK

We have purchased the SDK module, but have not yet installed or used it. I would like to get an idea of what the SDK allows us to do and what kinds of customizations are people using this for.Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Thank you,-Nicole

Maybe the oscript aficionados will chip in.Here are my personal opinions about it.First it allows you to see the internal workings of OpenText livelink server. Secondly it allows a better understanding of how the modules work and interact together.The SDK and IDE of the buider is pretty old but very efficient to get your work done.If you do like the bells and whistles of a newer ide then this may not cut it. About stuff that I (We) have done.Mostly stuff relating to livelink workflows,it allows you to add the little bit missing when you embark on workflow projects,get "Wow" from the workflow managers.Keep some users happy about bulkloading stuff from a hard drive,re-organize a structure tree when companies merge/break up.Get content out to newer systems such as $harepoint.Create scheduled activities for your organization.Create new node behaviour for your organizationI am really clueless about the capabilities you can acheive.Perhaps with some real involved training at OpenTextone can acheive true enterprise class stuff.Try practizing on the addressbook sample,it takes you miles into how a new node can be added and use everything pre-built in for getting your work done.Also visit the communities.opentext.com where a lot of developers/seasoned livelinkers interact and poll everbody about what they have done.I also program in lapi and knowing builder has made my life easier.

Hi Nicole,I have been working with the Livelink SDK for over 10 years now...and I highly recommend you send a couple of your developers to the OT training. OScript is a high-level scripting language and it is not difficult to learn. The challenge is understanding the object model and the best approaches for each type of customization.As you can see from Howard's attachment, there is a lot to the SDK and the best way to give your team the appropriate methodology for Livelink development is through the OT training. The manuals are second-to-none and Howard's expertise is beyond compare.....Once your developers understand the fundamentals, there is almost nothing you won't be able to achieve with the SDK. Also, as Nair has indicated, even if you develop LAPI applications, using the SDK is often the best way to debug them...the 1 day LAPI training session gives a great overview on how to do this, as well.Best of luck to you and your team -- and welcome to the world of Livelink development!!! We are thinking about sending a couple of people to Open Text to get the developer certification. How difficult is it for someone who has moderate experience in programming and moderate experience with Livelink to pass and complete the certification.
