Copy Objects with permission set
Gertjan Blom
For every client we have structure like thisClient Folder Folder 1 Folder2 Folder 2 Folder 2-1 Folder 2-1-1 Folder 2-1-1-1 Folder 2-1-1-2 Folder 2-1-2 Folder 2-2 Folder 2-3 Folder 3& So onWe have different permission, different categories on each folders. So to have simple code we have created template structure same as above & set all categories, permissions on it.Thru LAPI we are using CopyObject function which will create new folder & sub folders from template structure. Its working as needed but only problem is of permissions. Permissions are not copying with it & checked this in Livelink also & there also its not copying permissions. Is there any way where we can do this ?If not then is there any workaround for this? Thanks in advance

Message from Christopher Meyer via eLinkPermissions are inherited from the destination container if the sourceand destination are in different volumes. If your source anddestination are in the same volume, then individual permissions on thefolders will be copied as well.-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: LAPI Discussion[mailto:lapi@elinkkc.opentext.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2008 11:15To: eLink RecipientSubject: Copy Objects with permission setCopy Objects with permission setPosted by Blom, Gert Jan on 07/22/2008 05:11 AMFor every client we have structure like this Client Folder Folder 1 Folder2 Folder 2 Folder 2-1 Folder 2-1-1 Folder 2-1-1-1 Folder 2-1-1-2 Folder 2-1-2 Folder 2-2 Folder 2-3 Folder 3& So onWe have different permission, different categories on each folders. Thanks for your reply.Do you means that if i copied whole folder structure in same volume with different name then permission will also be inherited with that ?If yes then it's not i have checked directly in Livelink also, categories are inherited but not the permissions. Is anything is to be set thru admin pages to inherit permission also?I also checked "Always inherit the permissions from target destination "under Admin -> System Addministration -> Config Access Control But no luck. Please have a look at attached screen shot.

Any solution for above problem?

Message from Christopher Meyer via eLinkI have confused the permission inheritence behaviour between copying andmoving content. What I wrote earlier about moving content betweenvolumes may not necessarily apply to a Copy."Always inherit the permissions from target destination " under Admin ->System Addministration -> Config Access Control is for moving content, not copying.-----Original Message-----From: eLink Discussion: LAPI Discussion[mailto:lapi@elinkkc.opentext.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2008 17:12To: eLink RecipientSubject: Thanks for your reply.[Attachments exceeded pre-set size limits. How about XML Export and XML Import? I am pretty sure it preserves permissions.
