Item Handler Values Get Wiped Out

Is there a way to update a Workflow map (by importing the Workflow map) without wiping out the item handler settings and configuration? I am downloading the map from our development server and importing it to a different production server. Please let me know if there is any additional information about our servers you need. Thanks,Dan
