Blank numeric parameter

This is for Livelink 971. There's a report with one parameter, of numeric type. The livereport is passing the parameter directly to a stored procedure (SQL 2005). When the parameter is left blank, livelink assigns it the value ? (question mark). As the stored procedure is expecting a parameter of numeric value, this causes an error. Has anyone come across this issue and found a solution or work around without having to change to stored procedure logic?
