Nick,

One could determine that by finding the subtype of the owner to which an object belongs. Not sure if there are any other ways.

Recycle Bin - 3030
Personal Workspace - 142
Enterprise Workspace - 2000
Project Workspace - 202

Thanks,

Adarsh

Hi,

An object in DTree has three important columns....

OwnerID, ParentID and DataID.

OwnerID means volume/workspace.

ParentID means containing folder(which at the top of the hierarchy is the volume/workspace).

OwnerID is normally the negative of the DataID of the volume/workspace itself.

You know you are at the volume/workspace level because the parentid there is always -1 (i.e. no parent).

So you could determine the name of the workspace of an object as follows

select name from dtree where - dataid = (select ownerid from dtree where dataid =<my object>); <--- note the negative sign before the first dataid

I did a quick test....

SQL> select max(dataid) from dtree;

MAX(DATAID)
-----------
77992

then pumped that in to my statement

SQL> select name from dtree where -dataid = (select ownerid from dtree where dataid =77992);

NAME
-----------------------------------------------------

Enterprise

Beware project-like workspaces though, as their names may not be unique and might lead to confusion.

In the email below, 202 is the Project object (which lives in the parent folder's containing workspace) not the Project workspace itself - which has subtype 201.

So the Project object typically has a positive dataid value and the workspace has the negative of that dataid.

This is how they are tied together in the schema.

Having already said that "OwnerID is normally the negative of the DataID of the volume/workspace itself." then you can see that the ownerID of an item in a project workspace is going to be positive (double negative).... and then in a nested project it is triple, etc., etc.

Regards

Lindsay
