How to use inpersonateUser method

I am trying to use the Web service in Livelink 9.7.1 to inpersonate a user and retrieve the user's personal workplace data. I get the insufficent permission erro back, does any one know what kind of access right I need to have to inpersonate a user in the code.

I authenticate initially with the Admin user like this:
Authentication auth = WebServiceUtil.getAuthenticationService(authURL);
String token = auth.authenticateUser("Admin", "****");
OTAuthentication otauth = new OTAuthentication();
otauth.setAuthenticationToken(token);When I later in the method try to impersonate a user:
token = auth.impersonateUser("Test1");Exception in thread "main" javax.xml.ws.soap.SOAPFaultException: Invalid username/password specified.

Sorry for the messed up post. This "rich text" interface is not the smartest...

As for the code, it would of course help if I set the headers so that the authentication service knows about the current user. The provided sample in WebServicesUtil doesn't do it so either you have to do it yourself or modify the utils. If you want to do it yourself, the code looks similar to this:

  Authentication auth = WebServiceUtil.getAuthenticationService(authURL);
  String token = auth.authenticateUser("Admin", "xxxx");
  OTAuthentication otAuth = new OTAuthentication();
  otAuth.setAuthenticationToken(token);
  WebServiceUtil.setSoapHeader((WSBindingProvider) auth, otAuth);

Once you set your authentication header, did everything work as expected?

Yes, once the header is set, you will be able to imporsonate any user. The newly generated token will need to be sent over to the service that you are talking to.

Hi, Vivek.

Try changing your URL for the Authentication service to "http://localhost:8080/les-services/services/Authentication".

There's also the LLTreeView sample project that you might find helpful, if you haven't looked at it already.

I should also highlight that you'll need different URLs for the Authentication and DocumentManagement services. You could either explicitly instantiate two different URLs, or you could use the WebServiceUtil.getServiceLocation() method to construct subsequent URLs based on the first (passing it the name of the service you want to access.

For example:

fDocMan = WebServiceUtil.getDMService(    new URL( WebServiceUtil.getServiceLocation( serviceURL, "DocumentManagement" ) ),    token );

Thanks, setting the token made the impersonation working in my environment. I should have found it earlier, all services need it before making the first function call... I did not need to set any additional SOAP header. I am evaluating the .NET WS on LES 9.7.1.

Right, the authentication SOAP header only needs to added when using a JAX-WS client. For a WCF client it's handled as part of the call itself.
