To propagate the channel created throughout the directory's hierarchy
Frank_Early
Hi all,Have a News Channel created and applied it to a top-level node having lots of sub-folders going several levels deep down.Would like to propagate the channel throughout the hierarchy. It would be nice to distribute it through to sub-items in the same way one would distribute categories or permissions.For particular reasons, adding the relevant news items as System Messages from Admin Index is not a good option.I searched the forum and have not got any luck. It is being covered previously.(News Channel and postings in folders Open Text Knowledge Center ... Although I've never tried it, I'm wondering if a cascading appearance could somehow be used to accomplish this...

What we do sometimes, is create a system message with a link to a news item. Systemmessages are shown systemwide. In the news item you can then change the item when you have newer news. Only disadvantage: you cannot easily change the subject (and URL) of the systemmessage. Evert

Thanks Evert, unfortunately, system message is not the good option in our case, since we don't want a particular news channel for a particular group to be appeared system-wise everywhere.Appreciate your comment.-- Michael C

Hi Bhupinder,Did a test on the appearance cascading and it is working in the Appearance workspace with Center Left, Header,Top Center or Top Left area. Enable/disable the Livelink Components is also working in all the sub-folders(with appear cascading option enable). However, the news player (which is one of the Livelink Components) after disable and enable didn't cascading down to the sub-folder.Please advice. Thanks-- Michael C

This worked for me, under limited testing of course:
In a folder configured to display the news player, do a view source (browsers View menu, Source option). Copy the news ticker code. For example, mine was:
<!-- File: channel/channelcomponent.html -->
<DIV ID="newsTicker" CLASS="newsTicker">
<DIV CLASS="newsSource" ID="source">
<DIV CLASS="newsItem">
New Channel 2: <A HREF="
Read'>https://mylivelinksite.com/mylivelinksite/llisapi.dll?func=ll&objId=46413224&objAction=ViewNews&sort=name&viewType=1">Read
All About IT!</A>
</DIV>
</DIV>
</DIV>
<!-- End File: channel/channelcomponent.html -->
Next, edit your appearance, and in a section of your choosing (header, top, etc), paste the news ticker code you copied earlier.
Let me know if that helps.

Yes Bhupinder, I did that test too with the news ticker code add in the Header, Top Center (same result as Header), Top left and center left (same result as Top Left) and I'm able to see the news ticker in only those area which is outside the LL main focus area (which is the middle of the page). However if I want the same position as the news player "current position" (which is the position in front of the "Add Document /Add folder/Add item in the same roll) Then the Appearance Cascading in LL components "News player" is not working in the sub-folder.Thanks.--Michael C
