Rename all folders with a specified name under a specified subfolder

Hello I do need a report which renames all folders with a specified name, like this:update dtree set name ='NewName'where name='OldName' and subtype =0 How can I realize that only all sub and subsub and so on folder of a specified folder will be renamed when this report was running??Thanks for your help

if you do in the DB you have to update some additional tables.For issues like this and updating attributes depending on specific criteria we wrote a small LAPI-Tool.Michael

Hi Peter,

Not sure if you have WebReports – if you do you could considerusing the NODEACTION:RENAME option. It will be easier to do than writing aLAPI app and safer than doing it at the DB directly.

Hi Peter,Lee is correct; if you only update the dtree table using a LiveReport, these items will not be re-indexed and search results will be inconsistent.If you have WebReports, that's the way to go!!! Otherwise, you should use a little OScript or LAPI utility to get the job done. You can update tables directly, but it is so not advisable - and probably not supported by OT if things go awry.Best,Donna

Regardless of the tool to be used the poster is asking for a scope limited update.I would write a simple lapi/WR app that basically looks in Oracle likeselect name,dataid from dtree where subtype=0 connect by prior abs(dataid)=abs(parentid) start with dataid =12345the start with maintains that only the folders underneath 12345 is the scope the objects ensuing under.With SQL server you may have to write a temporary table.For each of the result if I was using lapi i could then open a getobjectinfo call and a rename call.If it was a WR I could do the node:rename on that dataid.Well if you know oscript then you could do this all very well as well.If you have microsoft excel and livelink explorer on the same computer then the lapi libraries are available to you and all it would take is an excel macro.BTW:I have done this kind of direct table update for development/test systems because as Donna and everybody says OT just does not like you updating their tables directly.WR does provide a very good way to turn your schema knowledge into manipulation techniques (almost like the DQL layer in DCTM)
