Importing Outlook E-mail messages

Hey,

I was hoping to get some assitance with this. I'm writing an add-in for outlook that will import e-mails as people send them. Right now I can succesfully retrieve the message as a Microsoft.Office.interop.Outlook.Mailitem mail Item. If necessary, I can manualyl fetch all the important information from this object. What I'm wondering is how you import the email into livelink. I assume their isn't a direct import method for Outlook object, so I'd assume I'd create a standard node, and set the type to either E-mail or Email, then add the email message as the document attached to the node? what about file attachments? would each of those need their own Node too?

Hi, Jonathon.

Currently the email node type is not supported by Enterprise Web Services. Have you looked into the email integration solutions that Open Text offers?

I should say that you could, of course, add the email information as contents of a regular document node (i.e. in HTML or text or .msg format or something). I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, though.

Alright thanks Scott. I guess there's no plans to add support for them in the future update?

And I did briefly look at opentext's e-mail management, but unfortunately we don't have full access to the exchange server, so I doubt we'd be able to deploy them. I was hoping to just be able to write a quick little plug-in for outlook that would copy an email to livelink as it was being sent. Thats all we really needed.

I had a further question on this if anyone could point in the right direction. I ended up using Livelink Explorer's integration with outlook to move e-mail messages in/out of livelink. It works quite well, but I can't seem to create folders inside livelink using outlook calls. Is there some special way you have ot make outlook create the folder? I can create the folders with Livelink Explorer, but this isn't an automatic process. I assume since you can't create email objects, it's not possible to create e-mail folders with livelink web services. Is that right or can you make email folders? If you can't is there anyway to use livelink explorer to create an email folder in livelink without user intervention?

Failing that, does anyone know if its possible to create e-mail folders using LAPI?

Might be bit late for your question but we done similar thing email integration with livelink using outlook PIA, I used DocMagt Service for created and uploading content.

We wrote an addon for Outlook that used WebServices to communicate with Livelink and add the content in the correct location based on attributes, user etc.
