Hello all,
As requested at Content World 2009, I have produced and posted a sample that demonstrates how one might use the SearchService exposed through EWS.
The sample is in C# and can be found in the Samples folder for this community.

Hi Kyle,
In the given example
SearchService.GetDataCollections() retrieves a list of livelink slice names,
Is there any way to get slice IDs instead or find out slice ID by the slice name using EWS?
Thank you in advance,
Valeriy
Hello Valeriy,
The SearchService functions only work byslice name – not by slice ID.
Unfortunately, there is no function toobtain the slice IDs through the SearchService directly.
However, you may be able to use the DocManservice to list objects in the System Object Volume / Data Source Folder / SliceFolder to find the slice by name and use DocMan methods to get informationabout that slice, like the slice ID.

Hi Kyle, great stuff.
Would you know a way to get the summary or the file with the search web service? Can't find it in the available properties.
Thanks
Guillaume
Hi Guillaume,
Are you doing new development work requiring search, or is this in support of an existing application? In recent times we generally encourage new development work to use the XML API, or if you’re on CS16 you can use the CS REST API as well.
XML API docs here:
https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll/Open/16579994
Swagger docs for REST don’t include all of it yet, but one of our devs has a great post on how to use it over here:
https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/cs.dll?func=ll&objId=63704665&objAction=viewincontainer&ShowReplyEntry=64806897#forum_topic_64806897
That said… the region you’re after is OTSummary so make sure that’s included in your ResultTransformationSpec.
