EWS Impersonation

Hi,

I have the following questions related to impersonation using EWS:

Is it possible to use impersonation using an application account which doesn't have admin priviledges? - - - When we were using LAPI, we'd created a custom patch which allowed us to enlist certain application accounts which could impersonate without needing admin priviledges.

Moreover, another question is that does EWS use the same Oscript code to see which accounts can impersonate as LAPI does?

- I've tried using the same patch to enable impersonation using EWS, but that doesn't seem to work.

Hi, Michael.

Only users with admin privileges are allowed to impersonate. This is restricted in the impersonation method itself (on the OScript side), which is why your LAPI patch does not affect the web service call.

The LAPI patch (attached herewith) actually intends to change behaviour in the internal workings of Oscript. So why don't EWS impersonation calls go through the same patched code? I'm just curious to know. It is almost impossible to run a custom app with an account which has admin priviledges, so we're trying to find a workaround to that problem.

LAPI and Enterprise Web Services are twocompletely different APIs.

With this in mind, there should be noexpectation that EWS will use LAPI methods and vice versa.

I would suggest you take a look atSERVICE:Service Root:Service:Core:Authentication.ImpersonateUser forcustomization opportunities.
