UpdateObjectInfo for the target objectID on a Shortcut item?

Does anyone know if UpdateObjectInfo works to change the target objectID on a Shortcut (alias) item type?

My LAPI doc says :

OriginalID

Integer

For a Shortcut (Alias) or Generation object, the object ID of the object it references; for all other objects, Undefined

and indicates:

Not Applicable under the "To Update Use" column.

Just wondered if that is really the case? Is there any other way to adjust the target item in a Shortcut? The only alternative seems to be to delete the shortcut and add a new one of the same name.
