Cannot create custom module using Builder

VIJHAY DEVARAJAN

I am new to Livelink Builder, When i try to install the custom module from the admin pages, I get an error message 'Server did not respond'. In the trace file a message 'An unknown feature was specified' was generated.

I just followed the instructions that was provided in the Livelink Module Development Guide. Can someone help me what went wrong here.

Can you check the staging directory? I’llbet there is some extraneous files or folders there. Clean out the directory ofEVERYTHING except the new module.

If these folders are incomplete modules,then yes it does. Livelink does not like to see anything in the staging folderexcept for 100% complete modules.

The Addressbook module does work.However there are some minor errata on the directions.I have enclosed two lxe files in this zip file.I also see your module name as a weird one but module name or Name is just to show on the install page so I do not see where you are going wrong.I have enclosed the ini from one of my modules so that you can see what I am talking about

If you put these scripts in the scripts directory of the livelink and bring up builder ,in the Tools menu you will see those two utilities . It will create template or shrinkwarpped modules.It is form the OpenText KB and generally I do not go thru creating one form scratch.

The fun will be lost if you start using them but in case you are eager to try out some oscript code.

I beleive "Make A New module" is the one I am using,

Hello Vijhay,

There are a few things incorrect in yourmodule.

1) In the WebModule object fModuleNamefeature the module name is the name of the module without the version numbers.That is, you currently have it as “wfnerccip_1_0_0” but it shouldbe “wfnerccip”. Making this change and recreating the ini file isenough to make this module install.

2) The WebModule->fPathPrefix should bea relative path rather than absolute as your module may be installed on amachine where this absolute path doesn’t exist.

3) While not strictly required, theWebModule->fVersion feature should reflect the version numbers of the module’sroot directory. Your module’s root directory is “wfnerccip_1_0_0”but fVersion reads “8 0 1”.

4) You have missed setting thefFilesToCopy feature and so when you create help files and support files theywill not be copied into the support folder.

I’ll echo my friend Appu when hesays to use the “make a new module” script. It is far less fun thandoing it by hand but it is also far less error-prone.

I hope you enjoy using the builder andwould encourage you to take the 4-day builder course. I don’t know whereyou live but if you are close to Waterloo Ontario, I teach it here. Of coursewe have other trainers who teach the course in other parts of the world and theyare all excellent trainers.

It works now, Thanks so much. I installed the module, and i have also started writing Event Scripts to extend the workflow.

I have a new issue now, I have written a event script that extends GeneralCallBackScript, where i try to update a workflow attribute once the workflow is initiated. Now when i initiate the Workflow, I get an error message 'Could not Load Script' in the builder debug window. I have introduced a new script feature namely 'UpdateWFInstanceID' to achieve this.

I am also attaching the snapshot of the error and the event script code. Thanks in advance.

On the training, I am planning to attend next month 26th @ Irvine, CA. Just waiting for my management to say an ok.

And now for a short preview of the “howto debug your scripts” portion of the Builder course. J

When the debugger stops we always look atthe line of code it stops on and we inspect the variables starting at the equalsign and reading to the right. From the word document you sent I cannot see thevalue of objList or scriptObject or scriptname.

I’d suggest you run this again andensure the values of all variables on this line of code are what you expectthem to be. My guess is that somewhere you are not populating one of them correctly.

„Could not load script“ means that you need a builder course,because it means that you don’t understand the standard “edit, compile, test”cycle for OScript development.
