Hi ,
we have problem about EWS .
For example when we using foreign character like ö,ü...etc. in Search Service, cause a problem
The character we use has shown different in .Net application.
How can we fix it .
Thanks for helping.
Hello,
Could you please describe your problem inmore detail?
What problem occurs?
Do you receive an error message or do youreceive unexpected search results?
How are you performing your search?
What search criteria are used?
What language are you developing in withinthe .NET framework?
How have you deployed your web services?
Are you running a Latin-1 or UTF-8 ContentServer (Livelink) service?
Regards,

Hi Kyle
First we don't get any error message but when we receiving search reply if foreign character exists answer comes with strange characters like $ ½ # $ for example
But if we use foreign character like ö,ü,? which in turkish alphabet for searching,we couldn't receive any result.
We are using EWS Search Service and we give the search query in a textbox in C# .NET 2008
We match categories attributes name with its CatName for searching.
We are adding EWS as reference and using UTF-8
Thanks for reply
Thanks.
So, to clarify, if your search is somethinglike:
Attr_1234_1:”?bercool”
Then you get no results, but you know fora fact that the value exists in the database?
Can you search for this same query in theGUI successfully?
If your search is something like:
Attr_1234_1:”ubercool”
Then you do get results but the returnedvalues for various regions contain strange characters?
Which regions are you requesting in theResultTransformationSpec of your search query?
Which region(s) contain the strange characters??OTName?
What version of Windows are you using foryour client development?? And what is the codepage used by that Windowsinstallation?
Which web server are you using to deployEWS?
Thanks,

Hi Kyle.
Thanks for reply.
First. we both have the problems you told .To clarify when we searching
with using attributes(name ,surname)...
Attr_1234_1: "name =übercool"
Attr_1234_2: " surname=süpercool "
No result coming.
Then when we searching like
Attr_1234_1:”ubercool” result contains strange characters.
query.ResultTransformationSpec = new string[] { "Score", "OTName", "OTLocation" };
in this query OTName contains strange characters.
We use Windows XP Pro. or Vista and Server 2003 and these are using codepage 1252 \ 1254
And We using IIS for deploying EWS
Hope Helps
We are waiting for your advices for our solution.
--------on the following there is a printscreen of solution that text of messagebox
is "DDILLDownloadüzüm.cs" but appears strange. Hope helps...
It looks like you have forgotten to set the proper Livelink.Encoding in the web.config file for your deployed Enterprise Web Services.
In the <OTHOME>\webservices\dotnet\les-services directory, there will be a Web.Config file.
Within this file, find the following section:
<appSettings> <add key="livelink.host" value="localhost"/> <add key="livelink.port" value="2899"/> <add key="livelink.encoding" value="Default"/> </appSettings>
If you are connecting to a UTF-8 Content Server (Livelink) installation, the "Default" value for the "livelink.encoding" setting needs to be changed to "UTF8".
Hi Kyle,
But this is not our main problem. We tried UTF8 before in web.config. And didn't fix our problem.
Our problem is:
When we doing upload or search, foreign characters deleted or replaced by EWS.
Forexample "?" replaced to "s",and "ö" deleted .
Then we cannot upload or do search correctly.
Hope Helps...
Do you have the problem when uploading documents through the Content Server GUI?
Or only through your client application that uses EWS?
We have the problem only in our project that uses EWS. Foreign character deleted or changed.
Best regards.
How are you determining that the characters are being modified when uploading through EWS? Are you verifying this through the GUI? Are you verifying this by querying the database directly?
If you have the UTF8 livelink.encoding setting, then EWS will be consuming and transmitting data as UTF-8 encoded characters.
If you are using a Content Server UTF-8 installation, then the Content Server service will be consuming and storing data as UTF-8.
If you are using a UTF-8 database, then the database will storing and retrieving the data as UTF-8.
The only remaining piece of the puzzle here seems to be your particular client application. If you are not passing UTF-8-encoded strings into the EWS calls, that could be the reason.
One more thing I want to mention...
Earlier, you noted that you received no search results when searching for:
Attr_1234_1:"name=übercool"
Unless your attribute value actually has the entire string "name=übercool" in it, that query is incorrect.
You should not be specifying the name of the attribute inside the double quotes. The Attr_1234_1 is the reference to the category attribute region. Your quotes should only contain the "übercool" value you are searching for.
First of all, query is like : Attr_1234_1:"übercool" and "Name" means that it is label of Attr_1234_1.
Content Server,EWS, DB and our application installations using UTF8.
And how i determine the characters are being modified that when I upload document using EWS in my solution then log in to Livelink, On livelink the document name looks different then i gave.
For ex: i give name like "?üper" and then on livelink GUI it looks like "sper".
Another problem is if i search some documents on my solution using EWS. for ex: Name means it is Attr_1234_1 and text of Name is "übercool". No result coming.
Hope helps...
pat08240.zip patch file fixed it...
