Good afternoon Belinda,
That will all depend in how you’ve configured your SynchronizationSource parameters inside of Directory Services. Directory Services has theability to add users to multiple groups during the synchronization. If you havefurther questions, I would recommend that you open a ticket up with support toget some further insight into your questions. I’m also going to provideyou a link to a Knowledge Base article that’s been published on DepartmentMappings in case it may be of some use to you https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll?func=ll&objId=16530134&objAction=ArticleView.
Regards,

Preparation For Initial Synch

When the initial synch runs will our users loose access to their current default/base group? I understand that synch will update our users' base groups based on the department mappaings but will that update mean that they will be removed from the initial base group completely? For example will a user in base group "All Users" no longer be in group "All Users" when the synch changes their base group to the "DS group" or will the user be in base group "DS group" and still in group the "All Users" group as well?

This is working per design. The department will be updatedwith any synch that ever runs, so you do need to figure out a way of gettingthat set to the right value.
Enabling or disabling department mapping is misleading, and yourinterpretation is common, but incorrect. Enabling the department mappingtells the synch to look at the departmentMappings table to map departments, otherwise it will look at the attribute you have specified as your departmentattribute, and if the value is the same as the name of a group in Livelink itwill map you to that group. If that mapping fails, it will map you to thedefault group.
Unfortunately there is no way to make it so that the departmentdoes not get updated.

Dwayne and Gregg thanks for your responses. However, during our test the department groups of existing users is updated no whether or not department mapping is enabled or disabled. I believe the issue is currently the department groups are being used as access control level groups instead of department level groups with no access as intended. We were trying to find out if there was a synch setup option that wouldl allow our existing users to remain in their current department after the initial synch since their current department is not associated with any field attribute in our AD?
