Document migration

Hi Scott and others,

We have large number of documents which need to be migrated into our system. what do you think the best approach to do this migration of the documents and their attributes in chunks?

I thought about using a UploadContent webservice to achieve this. Even though it looks feasible, I think it is not the best option and I would like to know if there is any better way to achieve this migration.

unless you want to code your way I will buy the OT module Object Importer and Exporter.You write xml syntax and it will do its job.Similar bulk loader companies exists as well.Very powerful things.I have retired documentum,filenet and a lot of other DMS's and got its content into LL with these tools.Very easy and one of the best /beautifully done modules

Used OI for several projects.If you need a simple accessdatabase containing code to generate xml files for livelink let me know.It issimpler than you think

It can be doine with excel vba,perl almost anything that canwrite a xml file

If you like csv files then I would use Syntergy bulk importer

In my case, I will have a document and another file which will have its attributes. Can you please elaborate how to import this document along with its attribute using OI.

Hi Kapil,

The import file for OI should also contain the attribute info inXML format.

Every document will have an XML entry which contains the locationin CS to store the document, the location on the file system of the documentand that attribute information.

Hi Appu,

I have tried a simple XML for document import. Even if the document is there, it is returning 'Document doesnt exist' error. Here is the XML I tried..

<location>Enterprise:Agreement:Library</location>

<title>Test Document upload</title>

</node>

</import>

Am I doing anything wrong?

nothing jumps at me other than the file pathing looks unix and the use of single quotes.Here's a snippet of an export form my server

Don't worry about ACL's and stuff but do put the mime correctly and the file path correctly.Post the logs

and make sure the livelink server process user can see your file.I don't think cdata notation is important even though when white spaces are important to your busineess.Also let me know if you have checked 'add Title to location' in OI config.

if you have access to the livelink sysadmin pages ,I would look at this function

http://<yourlivelinkservername>/livelink/llisapi.dll?func=admin.sysvars

you are looking for this in the page

Upload Directory
	Enter the directory specification for temporary storage of documents added to Livelink (optional). If specified, the Livelink server will only add uploaded files found in this directory.
	Upload Directory:

If it is empty open a ticket and ask OT support why the node instruction file does not work.

If it is filled ask them for a patch so that OI can pick up files from other places.

Thanks Appu. I checked the admin configuration and found out that upload directory was set to a location and I was not using that location for upload. When I changed to the correct upload directory, It worked. I will request for a patch to pick it up from the different location.
