Mail shot/Mail merge query

Does anyone know if there is a way to create a mail merge using a single letter template (like when you want attributes from a category pulled in during a workflow or when creating a document from within a folder that has a category attached) but for hundreds of different sets of data without having to use mail merge in MS Word?I was hoping there would be a sort of live report that could pull all of the different sets of data from a category (we are using one category to store hundreds of different sets of data which are currently stored as seperate items but in the same folder) and then push all of that back out to a XML letter template with placeholders and produce hundreds of versions of the same letter template but with with all the different sets of data in each document (same as mail merge but using livelink and categories instead of MS Word and CSV files).Hope someone can answer this one for me!

We use Report Builder 3 and SQL reporting services from Microsoft to generate reports. This has an export to XML function. Using this tool we recently completed a mail merge exercise using Attribute Data to generate a set of custom labels for Books going into our new Library. We also use this to provide tailored audit reports for the livelink workflows we run. In the Library example I used the SQL below to gather together the attributes. A report was then created using Report Builder. This report uses placeholders and images to present the labels in the required format.
