I am getting an error while trying to upload a file to the folder which resides under my home. Here is the request:

a field called ContentID which I changed to 111111 and

used because I am not sure what to use here.

I got a following exception:

<faultstring>Dispatched service DocumentManagement threw exception DocMan.NodeDoesNotSupportAddingVersions : Node does not support adding versions.</faultstring>

I created a folder for this test and used its node id in AddVersionContext request to get the context id for uploadContent request.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong here.

Hi, Kapil.

Folders are not versioned objects, so you cannot call AddVersion[Context]() on them. Try creating a Document and testing with it.

UploadContent is for use with MTOM, so you would have to configure soapUI to use that.

I am trying to upload a document to a folder using upload content. Where can I specify the folder nodeid where the document will be uploaded? Can you please explain the following 2 tags in the request of UploadContent webservice and how can we get the values for them. In SOAPUI, there is a option for file attachment on the request side which I used to include a document.

Hi Kapil,

To use the ContentService.UploadContent() method you first need to make a call to create a context ID. For example, you could call DocumentManagement.CreateDocumentContext() to get a context ID.

The contents parameter is the stream to upload the content. I'm not sure how SOAPUI uses this.

Hi Kapil,

The problem may not be in your code, but could be server side.
I would recommend setting wantLAPILogs=TRUE in the [options] section of the opentext.ini (with a restart) and looking in thread logs for "InvokeService" requests to see if any additional information about the failure stands out.

Any further investigation should really be done by OpenText Customer Support.

What you have looks ok to me, so I'm not sure what exactly is going wrong.

For clarity, here is a quick C# code sample of how to use CreateDocumentContext() with UploadContent() :

When I compared you request with mine, I found following differences:

1. You are using AddVersionContext and I am using CreateDocumentContext since I want to upload a new document. Have you tried adding a new document using CreateDocumentContext ?

2. When I attach a file in my SOAPUI, the PART section is empty and uneditable. The TYPE section is set to UNKNOWN and uneditable as well which is why I am not sure how to specify the cid which is used in <urn:Contents> tab.

Hello Kobi,

The new document's ID is returned by the UploadContent call, as my example shows.
The location of that document is solely determined by the parentID you chose.
As you noted, you have left it as 2000, which typically points to the Enterprise Workspace.

Which error message are you referring to?
This one?

Hi Kobi,

I guess I'm not really understanding what problem you're experiencing.
You mentioned earlier that you were having a similar issue, but it sounds like you're not experiencing any error condition.

In my previous post, I mentioned that it's up to you to predetermine the upload folder by ID (e.g., 2000).
That container should contain your newly-uploaded file.
If it doesn't, then you must be missing a returned error condition.

my problem is how can i get the folders list and id in the first place to choose from (i think it's the objID)?

i want the user to be able to choose a different forlder each time , i want to show him a list of folder , by name,

to choose from and only then upload the new document.

the second issue i have is: i need a way to show the content of the selected folder from the above issue and after selecting the folder and document within i want to edit the documents attribute or add some new attributes.
how can i do that?, what's the service i need to work with?

I would suggest looking at the TreeView sample that ships with Content Server (also available here in OTDN). It provides you with example code that provides a navigation structure, which sounds like what you are looking for, as well as a facility for viewing/changing metadata on the items.

If you want to work with categories/attributes, the DocMan service has a variety of category and attribute functions you can use. Other posts in this forum contain further information about category/attribute development.
