Accessing last document major version

Hi,

i ask any suggestion about this topic:

i would like to download last major version of a particular document.

My idea is to use getNode() operation, scrolling Node list i can obtain last document "versionNum" major version.

Then i will use it in GetVersionContentsContext or GetVersionContents for tag "versionNum".

Is there a smarter solution?

I think that i can't use directly GetVersionContentsContext or GetVersionContents if i don't know version number, since if i don't fill "versionNum" i obtain last version ( minor or major ).

Try using -1 as your version number.
This should instruct the system to give back the latest MAJOR version.
Using 0 as your version number will give back the latest major or minor version -- whichever is available.

To be more specific:

0 = Get the current version of a standard versioning node or the current version (major or minor) of a Major/Minor versioning node
-1 = Get the current major version of a Major/Minor versioning node
-2 = Get the current version of a standard versioning node or the current major version of a Major/Minor versioning node

If you can't be guaranteed that everything in the system is set up with Major/Minor versioning, I'd use -2.

We are facing the following problem with a customer:

when trying to access the latest version of a document via the GetVersionContentsContext-method we use 0 as version in order to
get the latest version. Though this does not always return the latest version when a new version has been added recently. Might
this be an performance problem with indexing? (I thought this method did not use the search engine to obtain the correct version)

Any ideas that might help me with this problem are welcome,

Does the customer use Advanced Versioning (major/minor)?

If so, does the user who has authenticated with web services have sufficient permissions to see minor versions?
The first version is always a minor version, unless it has been promoted to major.

(BTW, version interaction has absolutely nothing to do with search)
