Error When Inserting Table Lookup Attribute

Hi,

I'm trying to update the value of a Table Lookup attribute to a value that is 50 characters long.

I'm getting the error

"Value entered for <attribute name> is too long. Maximum length 32"

Even though I can set this particular attribute value using the GUI.

The option to set the maximum length is not shown in the GUI, but the "32" kinda rings out as that's the default max length for a regular text field.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Livelink 9.7.1, September 2010 patch.

Should add that I'm using straightup LAPI (well, EasyLAPI) with no XML or anything.

This sounds like a previously registered bug, details for which are given below. I would suggest contacting support@opentext.com for further assistance and mentioning the bug number below so they can verify if it is indeed the same issue you are experiencing:

Bug # LPO-644: Cannot set values on AE attributes if value > 32

From the bug details:

When the SetObjectAttributeEx() function is called, and a value is assigned to a table lookup attribute and that value length is > 32, the aforementioned function fails. The error message is " Value entered for 'x' is too long. Maximum length 32", where 'x' is the name of our table lookup attribute.

Steps to reproduce:
1) create a category with at least one table lookup attribute.
2) set the attribute to reference a custom table where the field is > 48 characters in length.
3) invoke a LAPI application that sets the attribute values on an item in Livelink.

Result: object can be created, but category will be missing from object.

Environment:

Livelink 9.7.1 with Attribute Extensions 4.2 on Windows 2003, SQL Server 2005 - Bhupinder

Issue was corrected with patch pat09382. Not sure why it wasn't included in any of the cumulative patces.
