Adding a document in a structure with Attribute Extensions

Hello,

I need to create a WebService adding a document into a folder structure having cats and atts applied. Two attribute are build on Attribute Extensions (which means cascading attributes). Has anybody done something similar before. is there a code example availble?

I did some further research on this. In principle, it is possible to add folder structures or documents having extended attributes assigned using WebServices. Currently the problem is, that you do not get the coreect values for the cascading attributes. It is currenlty not possible to retrieve the list of possible attribute values (maintained in ContServer in a DB table) via WebService.

In that case take a look at the product livelink explorer,in certain areas of operation the webgui is invoked and it is no different than the user using the livelink webgui.explorer overrides certain weblingo so it is cleaner to the end user.since the attribute extension work in standard html webforms you might be able to call it with the right params and let livelink do the work for you.Also the attribute will accept9it will not validate) anything if you use it with OI or similar importing tools.Syntergy actually checks it somewhat(not entirely how you want).

Attribute Extension (particularly AttrTable) is supported by CLM Services for SharePoint. It doesn't use the web UI of LL but reads and writes the attributes with LAPI. (The implementation uses the standard category-updating calls with input formatted as guessed from the output of the standard category-fetching calls.)

If there is no WS to handle custom attributes you could create and deploy your own. (The same way you'd use to expose some functionality via LAPI earlier.) Or mix your usage of WS with LAPI (or WS over LAPI) where the custom attributes work. And apply for this feature at the OT Customer Support to be added to the standard product in the future :-)
