Create Groups

Hi Scott/Jason,

We have a requirement where we need to create 3 groups for each new folder to maintane permissions on that folder. I tried using CreateNode operation of DocMan service with Type as Group, but it didn't work.

How can we achieve the creation of groups? Can you please give me an example?

I tried following request and it is giving me fault. "Member type must be user or group"

Request:-

As you see, I've specified the type as group, but I am still getting an error.

Is anything wrong with my request?

Hi, Kapil.

You can consider Member as a generic type. Rather than instantiating it, instantiate User or Group and pass that to CreateMember.

Are you using JCAPS for this? I'm curious if it will handle the XSD extension in this case.

I have already looked at Kyle's example. But, I am using SoapUI to test these webservice calls and I am not sure how can I pass a member or a group instance to CreateMember in SoapUI. I thought the type would be "member" or "group" and I tried group which didnt work.

Do I need to invoke a different webservice before a call to CreateMember?

I would like to re-open this discussin again. I also tried to use the CreateMember method, both for users and groups and failed with the same error message: Member type must be user or group

Since I am developing my software in PHP and not in Java or .Net, I have to rely on the correctness of the WSDL information. I cannot use the example that is pinned at the top of the forum.

I use SoapUI to test the webservices first, this allows for proper testing of the XML structure that is sent to the Livelink webservices. SoapUI interprets directly the WSDL file to produce the 'required' XML, which is given below:

The structure apears logical, but as soon as I fill in the Type section with group, Group, GROUP, etc .... it gives the same error message that theType is not correct. My feeling is that the WSDL information is not correct. Can somebody please supply a correct XML structure?

If I would have a full working Java example (and not a set of code snippets, because I am not up to speed in writing this), I could use Wireshark to see what actually has been sent.

Hi Martin,

I think the problem you are seeing is that the tool you are using (SoapUI) does not support polymorphism. The Member object is essentially just an abstract object which is actually implemented by the User and Group objects. So when you are calling the CreateMember() method it specifies that it accepts a Member object as an input, but in fact you would pass in either a Group or a User object. This is a known issue with SoapUI and some other tools.

Further to Jason's comments, you have to use the xsi:type attribute (on the urn1:member element, I think) to specify that the member is a group.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I pasted the XML into SoapUI and it works.

This now means I can create the above structure also in PHP, that was the ultimate goal.
