How to read patch files?

Hello there,

I have two patches here (pat08516 and pat08533) that differ only in one line:

o {#101,&kernel[257]}
vs.
o {#105,&indexlibrary[606]}

Now I'd like to know in general, what this "one-char-code" at the start of most patches mean.

eg.

m {'kernel','indexlibrary'}
o {#101,&kernel[257]}
N UpdateLibraryNodeIterator
f GetCursor
s
