CWS Create Classifications

Hi Guys,

Apologies if this information is already available however I have not been able to work this out. Is it possible using the RecordsManagement.svc (or any of the other Web Services for that matter) to create new RM Classifications?

Hi Keiran,

The RecordsManagement web service will allow you to apply an existing RM classification to an item, but will not allow you to define a new classification from scratch through the API.

Hi Keiran,

Unfortunately, there is no web service currently available to do what you're looking to achieve.
However, you could develop your own Content Server web service, if necessary, to allow you to create RM classifications.

BTW, LAPI is not a web service -- it's an API driven by client-side libraries.

Hi Keiran,

Unfortunately, there is no existing API that will allow you to create an RM classification from scratch.
You'd need to develop the Oscript side of a web service to produce a new call for your client app.

Hi,

It is not possible to create RM Classification using webservices however it is possible using LAPI.

The function which can be user is CreateObjectEx. RM Classification has specific metadata which are mandatory so you would need to pass them in createInfo.

CreateObjectEx input parameters should be:

inArgs.ParentVolumeID = this is OwnerID of classification volume

inArgs.ParentID = this is DataID of classification volume

inArgs.ObjectType = 551 subtype of RM Classification

inArgs.ObjSubType = 551

inArgs.Name = "Created from LAPI"

Assoc request

Assoc createInfo = Assoc.createAssoc()

request.fileNumber = "100-1"

request.statusDate = Date.Now()

request.status = "ACT"

request.essential = "YES"

request.storage = "ELE"

createInfo.request = request

inArgs.createInfo = createInfo

Of course that is just a simple example.

Hi Anna,

Although certain functions can be coaxed / abused into performing similar actions, use in this way is not supported nor can it be guaranteed to work.

The best way to approach this would be to write a web service that can provide this functionality.
