Generate Unit Test function in Builder?

Hi All,

I have Builder 10 installed with CustomizationsRT_10_0_1.

I've noticed that there's a "Generate Unit Test" function available when right clicking on items within the OSpace.

Can anyone explain how this is used and can be applied to testing module changes?

Hi,

The Unit test framework is independent from CustomizationsRT. It is a standard functionality in CS10.

There is an OSpace UnitTest that implements the UnitTest framework. I don’t have a running CS10 instance in front of me and therefore can’t tell if it is described there. I didn’t find any builder documentation that describes how it can be used.

The UNITTEST Ospace has a number of Documentation scripts, one of which provides following detail (below), but doesn't clarify for me how to invoke the test.....sadly as you mention, I can't find reference to the functionality in Builder documentation nor KC.

This API gives the developer the ability to create a particular object
in Livelink multiple times during unit testing; while only having to
defined the object to be created once.

By default, the developer can use this API to create a generic Folder and
a generic Document. The Folder will be created in the Enterprise workspace
and will be given a random name. The Document (text/plain) will be created
in the Enterprise workspace and will be given a random name.

Other objects and variations can be created with some customization. The
following are manditory steps to define the creation of a new object:

1) Orphan UNITTEST:Root:Objects into your "_Test" ospace, name it something
like <ModuleName>_Test Objects. Run BuildOSpace from Globals.

2) Create a child under this newly orphaned object, give it any descriptive name.

3) Populate fKey with a unique name (case sensitive), as this is what gets
registered. Including your modules name should make it unique enough.

4) Populate fSubtype with the subtype of the object you wish to create.

5) Set fEnabled = TRUE.

6) If orphaning from an existing object, set fRegisterSubType = FALSE. See below for more details.

7) Populate 0 Set ChildTypes and then run the script to set those values.
fChildTypes helps determine what type of parentNode a new object should be added to
if the parentNode was passed in. i.e. the parentNode or the associated volume of the parentNode.
See comments inside 0 Set ChildTypes for more detail.

8) Restart Builder to register this object.

On the tests created there is a function “0 Test” which you can execute to run the test.
