Create a new project based on a project template

Hi,

We need to use web services to create a project in Livelink based on an existing project template. Is there a way to do this?

Using LAPI, we export the project template to XML and then import it to create the project. Trying this with web services though just creates a copy of the template.

Can you please clarify how you are importing the project XML with LAPI?
I just tried it here on my system and XMLImporting a project template via LAPI produces a project template -- not a project.

Hi Andrew,

The ability to create a project from project template is not currently possible through shipping Content Web Services.

Hi, I know this is an old post but I finally found a way to use xmlimport to create a new project from template. You have to find the actual project node inside the template and import that one instead. It can be contained in a CDATA node. Here is how I did it in c#.

using(var memStream = new MemoryStream(attachment.Contents))

{

var xdocTemplate = XDocument.Load(memStream);

var projetXml = xdocTemplate.Descendants("content").FirstOrDefault(x => x.Attribute("type").Value == "cdata");

var xdocProjet = XDocument.Parse(projetXml.Value);

attachment.Contents = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xdocProjet.ToString());

attachment.FileSize = attachment.Contents.Length;

}

var newNodeId = xmlClient.ImportXml(ref xmlOTAuth, _config.TargetNodeId, new HydroDocServiceXml.ImportOptions { }, attachment);

You can then select the created project to set its title or description:

var projetInfo = collabClient.GetProject(ref collabOTAuth, newNodeId);

projetInfo.Name = request.Title;

collabClient.UpdateProject(ref collabOTAuth, projetInfo);

var node = docClient.GetNode(ref docOTAuth, newNodeId);

node.Comment = request.Description;

docClient.UpdateNode(ref docOTAuth, node);
