Number of unique users in a group

Dear Opentext,

We need to find out the number of unique users in a particular group please.

Note: If a user is also in another group which is also a member of the group we want to query, then we dont want the user to be counted twice in the output result.

Could you point us in the right direction please ?

Are you on SQL Server or Oracle RDBMS? For SQL Server use a recursive CTE followed by a SELECT DISTINCT. For Oracle use CONNECT BY PRIOR syntax. If you tell us what system you're on someone will likely chime in with an example.

Try the attached query. Just change the where a.id = '11111' to the id of the top level group. You have to run it directly from SQL though. This has not been tested as a LiveReport. Also make sure to double check the count and let me know if it doesn’t return the correct count.

I don’t know OracleJ I know there is a connect by prior function or something like that, but I’m not familiar with it.

The structure of the SQL looks fine for Oracle, but it doesn't like a "recursive" code. The WITH usage is acceptable to it. I'll work on it when I can. Thank you.

Hi,

This will count the distinct users in a group structure of you are using Oracle.

If you are on a version of Oracle lower that 10g, remove the key word 'nocycle'.

select count(distinct(ID)) as UniqueUsers from KUAF a where a.ID in (select distinct b.ChildID from KUAFChildren b start with b.ID = <your group ID> connect by nocycle prior b.ChildID=b.ID) and a.type=0
