Edit old versions with SetObjectAttributesEx?

Is it possible to edit the category data for old versions of a document? I see editing for them is disabled in the Livelink 9.7.1 GUI, so I wrote a Java program that would [ostensibly] let me edit any data for an arbitrary version. Unfortunately, it only works on the current version. Attempting to change data for an older version, even though SetObjectAttributesEx does not return an error, will result in no change.

I have a qn if you change attribute value on a old version how do you use it perhaps thru a databse report?

Nuts. The documentation I have says:

OBJECTTYPE

ID - Integer - The Library object's object ID

Version - Integer - An optional value that specifies a particular Library object version. The default value is the current version.

Thanks for pointing that out. What I've done is compose a program that will go through our library and consolidate multiple records of the same data by storing old revisions as versions of the most current document. Unfortunately, it's aborting on some records which have invalid data like a comma in the revision field, so I wrote this second program to fix that bad data. Unless there's a way to manipulate old versions' categories, it looks like I would have no choice but to delete the buggy version, add it, then add any and all more recent versions after that. What a pain...

Hello Greg,

Older versions of an object are considered to be matters of record. This is why the category data on older versions is immutable.
The only category data that can be changed lives on the most current version of the object.

If category data is incorrect for older versions, there is unfortunately no supported way of modifying that data.

Instead of fixing the old data, why not fixing the new tool to recognize different revision field formats?

Out of necessity, that's what I'm doing; it's just annoying to have invalid data in the system and no easy way to correct it.
