Hello, simple question here. I want to run a live report that deletes all records with specific data parameters the user enters (ie a Start Date and an End Date).

This query below does not seem to work and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/tips thanks.

delete from DTree where Subtype=144 and name like '%%translate%%' and createdate >=%1 and createdate <=%2

Agree, you're lucky this didn't work! If you just delete entries in DTREE table you will undoubtedly completely destroy referential integrity of the database. The actual version entries are in another table, but you do not want to walk down this road and attempt to delete the table entries manually. Moreover the delete action will not be recorded in the audit log.

There are a variety of supported methods to perform mass deletion, one of which I'm sure will meet your requirements.

This is a very bad idea. When you delete documents from dTree you orphan records in other tables (dVersData, llAttrData, etc.). This can (and usually does) corrupt your system.

Ok thanks every one. Glad to know that fact. I would never do that on a production server without testing it. Will most likely look in to designing a web services to do this. Cheers!

Does anyone have any links to where I could get more information on how to delete records based on parameters. I know web services,etc are suggested methods (thank you by the way) but just needed a place where to start. Thank you kindly!

Frankly if you have a test livelink system and a free C# express you can be productive in less than 2 hrs for this

Java and eclipse takes alittle longer but that can be programmer anxiety rather than anything webservices

If you are talking about business "records" then I would highly recommend implenting Records Management with its retention and deletion policies. If you are just talking about deleting content (delete all documents created between X and Y dates), I would just do a search, build a collection, and delete the collection. But I am not a programmer so it might be more efficient to do it via custom code.
