Error when running jar on server

I am able to run my jar on my laptop but when I run it on the server I am getting the following error:

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/opentext/
livelink/service/core/Authentication_Service : Unsupported major.minor version 5
1.0

Why would I get this error? I'm running against the same Livelink instance.

The Java version installed on the 2 machines must be a different version. Most likely the version installed on your notebook is newer than the base Java installed on the server. You may have a newer version available on the server, it's just not in the path first. Try running the same command using a specific JRE from a command prompt.

e.g.
"c:\program files\java\jre 1.5.0.18\java" -jar ...

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it's the java version error. I've seen that one before. The jre version on the server is 1.6 and I compiled the jar using 1.6.

The error is specifying "com/opentext/livelink/service/core/Authentication_Service" as the class that has a version conflict.

Do you know why it's specifying that class?

Hmmm... that's strange. The version number of 51.0 means the .class file was compiled using/for Java 1.7.

The reason it's complaining about that class is because it must be attempting to use it for something. Looks like you may have a newer version or a recompiled library.

Thanks for your help. I figured it out. Had to run wsimport again after uninstalling jdk 1.7.
