Human-readable names for technical ELS item types

Hi everyone

I am using the EXELS document pipeline to import lots of content to OTCS + OTAS. Enterprise Library makes use of a document model, and the names of the item and folder types are technical names with hierarchical namespaces.

E.g. "com.host.app.logs.trace".

When browsing to the category of the item in OTCS, you get a pretty ugly category name, e.g. com.host.app.logs.trace.v. You also get this technical name as your column name when you use tabular layout in the search screen.

Is there any way to configure this? I have tried to look in the EL Types Volume and the Search Manager's Region settings, but to no avail. They specificaly prohibit to change the display name because these are EL settings.

Does one need to map this in one of the .ini files in the OTCS configuration folder? If so, could you give an example? Or does it require some fiddling with multilingual metadata?

Hi Danai,

The categories you mention are used to implement the EL document model. They are not intended to be used directly.

As for the search, you should use the Enterprise Library Property Types instead.

How can we use the correct category then for EL items? We use EL Property Type properties in the search engine:

It is not really visually pleasing. Is there something we can do to change the names of the properties? Do we need to set multilingual settings somewhere, or fiddle with some .ini files?

Hi Danai,

Now I see what you are talking about...

It might work to change the display name of the type/category using the multilingual names, but we've never tried.
(Never change the technical name!)

As for the labels of the properties in the search mask, they are the display names of the search regions.
They are generated by Search from the property names.
For ELIB-regions it seems these display names can't be changed.
We do not know why. Maybe Search experts know a work-around.
