Need Urgent Help Parsing a string into an Assoc

I have a string which is a list of items seperated by CRLF and I need to parse it so that I can place each element into an assoc in order to then place the values into a multivalue category attribute. One other kink is that the MultiValue atribute is also an extended attribute which has a look up table for valid values. Any help would be welcome...

Hi Ian,

why do you want to place each element in an assoc ? Why not just Str.Elements ( yourdata , Str.CRLF ) and set the resulting list as the attr value list ?

just before setting it you will have to retrieve the sql from the attribute definition, execute it, and check if the values from your list are in the possible values. (and take decision accordingly if it doesn't match -> throw an error or remove bad values from your list ?)

Quite a bit of coding, but feaseable.

That's generally what I decided to do. But I'm walking through the LOV to see if I can find a match in the CRLF delimited string. I was trying to use str.locate, but it didn't seem to be doing what I expected so I am playing with str.cmp. It would still be n ice to see some stronger string parsing tools in Oscript. Hello,

To be sure in splitting character i have replaced all CR with empty string.

values = Str.ReplaceAll( values, Str.CR, '' )

values = Str.Elements( values, Str.LF )

If you're looking for a pattern within the string, you could try the Pattern or Regex built ins. They give you more power than Str.Locate(). But if you're looking for a specific substring, Str.Locate() or Str.LocateI() should be able to find it.
