Delete virtual folders in CS 10

In our new CS 10 implementation (not yet in production), we have thousands of virtual folders, created via scripts. Sometimes we need to delete them all in order to clear out the environment.

Does anyone have a LAPI script that will get the list of virtual folders and, one by one, issue a delete command on each? If not, can you suggest how to go about it?

Hi David,

Virtual Folders have a specific SubType (can’t remember what it is offhand).

I would recommend running a SQL query to grab the DataIDs of all those of that SubType and then you can programmatically delete them all by DataID.

The SubType of the new CS10 VFs is 899. If you want to delete them from remote you can list them by creating a LiveReport, for example. Reports can be executed by both LAPI or WS. Then you can delete returned results also by LAPI or WS. Reports result count is limited; you would run it until it returns zero nodes. If you have many VFs, it can take some time but you wouldn't need to mess directly with the database on the server side.

If you use the SharePoint integration (AGA), the LiveReport UI supports multiple item operations and you can delete all items rerturned by the report interactively.

interrestingly enough; virtual folders appear to have been "re-enabled" on CS10 Update #7. I guess the business could not get facets to work properly

datatype 899; good to know.

If you want to get rid of themm beceause of a migration to cs10; well; you should be fine now

Hi Christian,

The old virtual folders (prior to CS 10) and the new virtual folders (CS 10) are completely different beasts.
The new virtual folders relies on the facet technology available in CS 10.
The old virtual folders performed complex (and potentially costly) DB queries.

My understanding is that a Virtual Folder migration tool to help move you from the old virtual folders to the new virtual folders will be available shortly.
