Object FolderID from FolderName

Hi,

Is there a way to get the folder ID by passing folder name.
Basically we have folder name with us and we want to fetch all the documents inside it.
So as a first step we want to get the folder ID corresponding to that foldername and then by using that folder ID we can use listObjects to get all the documents inside it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are at a folder called “My Staring Folder” and you go to the search bar and type “My Folder Name”

Then search will return to you all items that match “My Folder Name” under that scope. One of the

Returned things would be the dataid. This search can be performed very easily using the ”Search API”  with

Any number of constraints like are you interested in content, metadata, subtype the works.

 

 

If you supply “My Folder Name” to Livelink then  that is not at all unique in the Livelink scheme of things

 so unless you had better qualify it with Volume or Parent

 

So in case you do not know this look  at my graphic well what I am trying to show is all that objects EWS,PWS & Projects are volumes so they are at the same level in Livelink parentid wise, it does not go any higher, not sure if the formatting will stay put

 

 

                        EWS(dataid of 2000 ,volumeid of – 2000 in most places but a bad idea to expect that to be true)

In all these cases a “Folder Name” can be constructed anywhere in those hierarchies. The supplied name is unique only inside its immediate parent.

 

In Oscript if you ask can you tell me what the ID of EWS: DESCENDANT 1: DESCENDANT 2 sure you can get it in millisecs because you are providing a path and a volume id to that function already given by OT.

 

In Livelink webservices this may be possible as well. I do not know that for a fact

 

In lapi you do not have that out of the box, you will find EWS, then find its children and successively. If you search communities.opentext.com and its lapi section you will find two examples by me trying to emulate the

Dapi.getnodebypath and dapi getnodebyid it is not going to be real efficient  when it hist long paths etc.

Why don’t you create a database function and call it form your lapi code,  if that was the only avenue you had.   It would be so simple code trying to get it from the database itself.                        

                                      

     

And may  we ask why you want to program in LAPI a rather  old technology from OpenText
