How do I get Category definition info? I'm trying to see if a value entered in an excel spreadsheet exists in a drop-down attribute in Content Server. Thanks.

What do you mean by Category definition info? The definition of a category itself (i.e. the list of attributes making up the category) or the value of a category applied to some object?

Take a look at the following methods, which may give you what you are looking for:

DocumentManagement.getCategoryDefinition()

DocumentManagement.getCategoryDefinitions()

DocumentManagement.getCategoryTemplate()

These will give you information about a given category using the category ID(s).

Otherwise, if you are looking for values of a category on a node, the category information is stored under the Metadata attribute of the Node object.

Thanks for the reply Jason. I'm getting "An unknown error occurred." on this line:

AttributeGroupDefinition objAttGrpDef = objDocMan.getCategoryDefinition(intCatID);

intCatID is the correct Cat ID. Any ideas?

I'd need more information about the error being returned. If you surround that line in a try/catch block and catch the SOAP exception it should give you an error code as well as the error message (although the error message here doesn't seem to be very useful).

If that doesn't get us any further we would need to look at the Content Server thread logs next.

Don't ask me why but I had to redeploy les-services.war to the tomcat server. after redeploying I got past that error. Now I'm getting an error on the red line of code below. Am I doing something wrong getting the Type and Key strings?
