Hi Group. I'm just picking this stuff up. The documentation says:

"The run-time components of Enterprise Web Services are installed when you install Livelink Enterprise Server. A separate SDK installation will install the SDK files into the OTHOME/webservices/sdk directory".

Where do I get this from? I can't seem to find it. I need version 9.7.1.

Also, the application that will be calling the ECM web service is .NET 4.0. Are there any issues with this? What about DLLs that I'll require to include as references in my .NET 4.0 project?

Hi Dylan,

The SDK is refering to Content Server Builder. When you install Builder it will add the sdk folder into the OTHOME/webserivces directory. You can find this on the KC home page under Enterprise Content Management > Content Management > Content Server (Enterprise Server) SDK.

And when consuming the services you do not need to add any DLL references. You simply just set up a service reference pointing to the service endpoint and Visual Studio will generate the client proxy classes for you.

OK, thanks Jason.

One thing I saw in the documentation is that I have to call the AuthenticateUser(userName, password) method in hte AuthenticationClient class. But where do I get the userName and password from? Do I have to set something up? Can this be an application userName?

The username/password are from Content Server users in the system. However, this is only applicable if you are using basic Content Server authentication on your system. If you have OpenText Directory Services (OTDS) or Content Server Directory Services (CSDS) or some other mechanisms to handle authentication then authenticating via CWS will be different.

Thanks Jason. I'm now able to create an instance of the AuthenticationClient class. This is good. However, when I try to call the AuthenticateUser() method, giving it a username & password, I get the following exception:

Could not load file or assembly 'vjslib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

It sound like there are some DLLs that need to be included in my project/solution. Is this true? Or is there something else I've missed.

BTW: I don't yet have a valid username/password. So I was expecting to get an authentication denied error (or something similar). I'm really just trying to work through this step by step.

Ahhh, you are using 9.7.1 then. This sounds like you don't have the services setup correctly on the server. I think all you need to do here is to install Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package on the server that you have deployed the web services on. You can get that from here:

We have removed this dependency for CS 10, but it is still needed for 9.7.1.

You won't need any additional DLLs in your project...this error is coming from the server.

Thanks, that resolved that particular problem. Now, I've got:

"Entry for ? could not be found in the configuration file".

This is happening when I call AuthenticateUser(username, password).

Not much in the way of explanations on Google or on this site. Any direction or help would be appreciated.

BTW: I'd like to attend your online seminar tomorrow.

Hi Dylan,

I don’t know exactly what criteria throws that error, but have you setup your web.config file for your web service yet?

You need to configure it so the web service can talk to your Content Server installation.

Got this problem resolved.

My next question is: where is the RecordsManagement.svc service? When I down loaded the source and extracted it, there is no RecordsManagement.svc service in: C:\OPENTEXT\webservices\dotnet\les-services.

I see the Authentication.svc, DocumentManagement.svc, etc there but no RecordsManagement.

Any ideas where this is?

The Records Management services are separate. You should find it up one level here:

C:\OPENTEXT\webservices\dotnet\les-services-recordsmanagement

Hi Jason,

I had installed "les_9.7.1_win.exe". If I look at what it extracted to my machine, there is no folder you mentioned. See screenshot below:

As you can see, there is no separate les-services folder for records management. Did I install the wrong thing? Or is there something else to install?

Do you have the Records Management optional module installed for Content Server?

Once that module is installed, you should see the new directory appear.

Hi Kyle,

I've been making some good progress here on calling the API to create folders in the content management system. But I'm still at the early stages of my learning.

I'm looking for API for the RecordsManagement classes. One example would be: RMAdditionalInfo.cs. My specific problem is that I am calling the RMGetClassifyInfo() method for a specific node ID (it returns a RMAdditionalInfo), and the ClassID property seems to always be NULL. I don't know what ClassID represents or how to set it, to I'm hoping to fill in some gaps.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.
