How to change default mime types

Hi,

Currently Content Server assigns application/octet-stream to files with unknown extensions.

How do I change the default mime type for files with unknown file extensions to something else?

I have already removed DCS and browser detection from the Mime Type Detection methods.

The documentation says the default is the first one in mime.types config file but it doesn't work.

You can then go to the SPECIFIC tab of the Object and change it there.

Hi Linda,

From what I remember, the last time I looked at the responsible Oscript code, the application/octet-stream is hardcoded as the default MIME type (WEBDSP : WebDsp Root : MIMETypePkg . fDefaultMIMEType).

So you’d need an Oscript customization to change it.

When you mention “documentation” are you referring to a page of the online help?

The documentation is "OpenText Content Server 10.0.8 - Administrator Online Help English (LLESCOR100008-H-AGD-EN).pdf"

There is an inconsistency between the actual behavior and the documentation.

It says verbatim:

actions performed by Content Server to determine the document’s MIME type. If the

first action fails to determine the MIME type, the next action occurs.

• Content Server looks for information about the file's MIME type from the user's Web browser.

• Content Server looks up the file's extension in the mime.types file to see if it is mapped to a MIME type in that file.

• Content Server attempts to identify the MIME type using an autorecognition program.

• Content Server assigns the file the first MIME type listed in the mime.types file

(by default, this is application/activemessage).

Note: The default actions and the order in which they occur can be changed on the System Administration page.
